Darwin Pet Trauma
Pet trauma can present in many different ways, including bite wounds, lacerations, vehicle accidents or other unexpected events. At Darwin My Vet Service in Wulagi, we provide calm, expert care when your pet needs it most.
The first point of action is to stem any visible bleeding by applying pressure and bringing the animals to the vet hospital as soon as possible. Limit movement where practical and be careful for areas of potential internal damage not currently visible.

Emergency Pet Treatment
When a trauma case arrives, we act quickly to assess the extent of injury and prioritise stabilisation. This may include stopping bleeding, administering oxygen or fluids, managing shock and starting pain relief.
Once your pet is stable, we’ll discuss any further diagnostics such as X-rays or blood tests to understand the full picture. From fractures to internal injuries, every case is different, so our treatment approach is carefully tailored to your pet’s needs.
If your pet requires surgery, we’ll explain the risks, steps and expected outcomes before proceeding. We also provide written estimates and discuss all options—including alternatives where appropriate.
Throughout your pet’s recovery, we keep you updated and involved so you know exactly what’s happening. Pet trauma is stressful, but with experienced support and clear guidance, you and your pet are in safe hands.
What should I do if my dog is hit by a car?
If your dog is hit by a car, approach calmly and check for breathing or bleeding. Carefully move them onto a firm surface for transport if it's safe to do so. Avoid unnecessary handling, especially if bones may be broken. Seek immediate veterinary care, even if there are no visible injuries.
How do I know if my pet is in shock after an injury?
Signs of shock in pets include pale gums, rapid breathing, cold limbs, weakness or collapse. It can happen after severe trauma or blood loss and may not be obvious at first. Shock is a medical emergency and requires immediate veterinary attention to stabilise circulation and prevent organ failure or death.
Can internal injuries occur without visible signs in pets?
Yes, pets can suffer internal injuries like bleeding or organ damage without showing obvious signs at first. After trauma, they may seem fine initially but deteriorate over hours. Symptoms like lethargy, fast breathing or a swollen abdomen could indicate serious internal issues, so early vet assessment is always recommended.
