Darwin Snake Bite in Pets

Snake bites are a real danger for pets in the Northern Territory, especially during the warmer months. At Darwin My Vet Service in Wulagi, we’re equipped to treat snake bites in pets quickly, safely and with the urgency they demand.

Because symptoms can vary and progress rapidly—from weakness and vomiting to collapse or paralysis—every minute matters. Antivenom may be required, and close monitoring is essential to give your pet the best chance of recovery.

Our clinic is experienced in managing these high-stress situations, offering calm support and advanced care from the moment you arrive. Here’s how we respond to snake bites in pets:

  • Rapid assessment & stabilisation
  • Antivenom administered when needed
  • Ongoing monitoring for complications

If your pet has been bitten or you even suspect a snake encounter, don’t delay. Call (08) 8927 3657 right away—we’ll prepare for your arrival and guide you on what to do next.

Rapid Response to Snake Bite

Every snake bite is different, depending on the species and how much venom was delivered. Pets may show signs within minutes or take several hours to react.

Common symptoms include sudden weakness, shaking, dilated pupils, drooling or collapse. Some pets appear to recover briefly before deteriorating again, which is why immediate veterinary care is so important.

On arrival, your pet will be stabilised, monitored and tested for clotting disorders or muscle damage. Based on symptoms and lab results, antivenom may be administered.

Our team also provides IV fluids, pain relief and oxygen support where needed. After initial treatment, we monitor your pet for delayed reactions or secondary complications. In some cases, pets may need to stay overnight or longer for continued care.

Snake bites can be unpredictable, but fast, professional intervention is your pet’s best defence. Don’t wait—contact a vet immediately if there’s any chance your pet has been bitten.
